My Arm Hurts

Last week I finally got around to getting my vaccines for Tanzania. I can't believe that it's less then two weeks before I am there! I can't wait. But for now my poor little left arm is not so happy with me. First of all the yellow fever vaccine is the most painful one I have ever received. Not to be a big baby but my deltoid is still sore if I press where I received my vaccine. If my dad were here he would say, "Well don't press on it then!"

After receiving that vaccine I opted out of the typhoid shot and instead went with the oral vaccine. As of today I am halfway through the pills. You take the pills on day 1, 3, 5, and 7 first thing in the morning with a room temperature liquid and then have to wait 1 hour until you can eat. The only downside to this is that I am usually out of the house an hour after I get up meaning that breakfast has been sporadic to say the least this week.

Friday I had a routine doctor visit and they took some blood from my arm. Unfortunately the lab tech was not very good and my arm has been painful since Friday. Yesterday a 3 inch bruise showed up around the site where she took my blood. Not only does it hurt to touch, it hurts to bend the arm and it hurts to straighten it. I don't know how long it will take until it returns to normal but for now I have to deal with the pain and the ugliness of the bruise.

Oooh, you got typhoid pills? I got the shot, since they were giving me a bunch at once anyway.

The measles/mumps/rubella is kicking my butt, which I didn't expect. My glands are so swollen I can barely swallow. That's supposed to be a mild side effect, but I'm so uncomfortable.

Good choice on skipping the typhoid vaccine -- that one (or maybe the 2nd of 3 rabies shots) was the worst one I've had. Yellow fever was no picnic either. It will all be worth it though!
