Birthday Celebrations Part 2

I think I have just about recovered from the weekend and can finally tell you all about it . . .

Friday night soul friend came down from NY and we had a wonderful girls night together; dinner, shopping and catching up to all hours of the night. She even brought me a hand stitched pillow that she made for me a couple of years ago. I was a little scared when she told me it was something I had asked for, but after seeing it I am absolutely in love with it.

Saturday morning soul friend arranged a photography class for me. We did it through Washington DC Photo Safari, and although it was shorter then we expected, it was loads of fun and very educational. We spent some time shooting monuments, then moved inside to learn how to shoot without a flash and tripod, and ended up outside again learning about portraits and close up shots. The best part was learning what some of the functions on my camera actually do. Now I just need some more practice to improve my photography!

Saturday night I rounded up all my friends in DC and headed out for a night of debauchery. Okay maybe not that kind of night but we did visit three really fun bars in DC: Bar Pilar, Saint-Ex, and Local 16. This meant that Sunday was a recovery day. Lucky for me all that was scheduled was brunch and football. I can't think of a better way to spend a Sunday.

Birthday Celebrations Part 1

I wish I could say I was blessed with sunny gorgeous weather for my birthday but unfortunately it seems that the weather gods were against me. The cooler weather, wind, and rain reminded me that yes it is in fact fall. Regardless of the weather I still had a great birthday, well except for the whole being at work for 10 hours part.

Here are the highlights:
  • Numerous phone calls from friends all over the place including a couple of songs and some very strange voicemail messages.
  • A surprise lunch with an old coworker. Old as in I used to be his coworker not old as in over 70.
  • Delicious dinner at Sonoma which included a variety of cheeses, heirloom tomato caprese salad, and scallops with corn polenta. Mmm, mmm!
  • A wonderful present from ABC - 2 hours of Grey's Anatomy.
As birthdays go it really was a good day. The best part is that this weekend there are even more festivities. In about four hours I'll be done with work, soul friend will be arriving from NY and then the real party can begin. Look for Part 2 real soon . . .

Weekend in CA

It's been a little while since I've posted anything and for that I apologize. Life seems to have been moving at hyperspeed recently. Too many trips during the summer, saying yes to too many work projects recently and trying to keep up my social life makes it hard to keep up on the blog. But I'm going to try my best. This weekend soul friend is coming down from NY and we are going on a photo safari so hopefully I'll even have some fun photos to post.

Last weekend, however, I spent in CA getting to know my nephew and catching up with the rest of the family and the new extended family. I might be a little biased by my nephew is the most awesome little man. We spent a lot of time just wandering around and playing with whatever we could get our hands on. I also got to help out with bath time and experience the afternoon walk, a strategy to get my little nephew to fall asleep and take a nap. Let me just say it's about 50/50 whether he takes the nap or not. Regardless you feel exhausted by the time you get back and he's full of beans.

It was so much fun to be back in CA, if only for the weekend, plus it was awesome to spend time with those I love the most. I'm so lucky to have such a wonderful family. Now if only I could get the work stuff under control I would feel at peace with the world . . . maybe next week.

Kid's Say the Darndest Things!

9 year-old patient: Are you married?

Me: No.

9 year-old patient: Awwwww . . .

Me: What do you mean awwww? It's not something to be sad about.

9 year-old patient: Well you're too pretty not to be married.
